HAKOM discovered cases of abuse of numbers for the provision of special tariff services

PRESS RELEASE

Two operators have ported between each other, without authorization, a significant number of assigned numbers and then concluded a contract with a third operator allowing that operator to use geographic numbers, that is, numbers with city codes for cities in Croatia to provide special tariff services which may usually be provided only with specially designated numbers.

ZAGREB, 29 October 2015 – The Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM) discovered during inspection supervision of operators Terrakom and IT Jedan a case of abuse of geographic numbers which were used by these operators for the provision of special tariff services. These two operators have ported between each other, without authorization, a significant number of assigned numbers and then concluded a contract with a third operator allowing that operator to use geographic numbers, that is, numbers with city codes for cities in Croatia, to provide special tariff services which may usually be provided only with specially designated numbers (060 and similar numbers).

Inspection supervision was carried out on the basis of reports of other operators that have noticed an unusual number of calls from the abroad to those numbers, in particular from non-EU countries. The disputed numbers were allegedly used for the provision of tourist information.
