At the gathering attended by over a hundred students from Split primary schools and their teachers it was pointed out that it is difficult to ensure child’s and young people’s safety on the Internet without an adequate consideration and a raised level of knowledge of those who should support and protect them, the ones responsible, their parents.

Modern communication technologies offer a wide range of information about everything we are interested in thus enabling the communication, however the freedom provided by the Internet simultaneously turns into danger if the so called  “Network of all Networks” is not used in a safe manner. There are many possibilities of abuse, and the greatest danger threatens the children and minors. Therefore, this year's celebration is a good opportunity to talk about safe and responsible use of the Internet and mobile devices with special emphasis on the protection of children and young people. Together with its partners on this project HAKOM wanted to encourage the young users to use the Internet in a proper and safe manner. On this occasion we wanted to convey the message that the use of technology and the Internet is desirable but it should be safe and responsible. We also wanted to point out that although the virtual and real world differ although privacy should be preserved in both and we should act in accordance with good habits. Each of us should contribute to the knowledge dissemination, exchange of best practices, respect for human rights and safety of the most vulnerable ones. - Mario Weber, emphasised in his opening speech.
