ZAGREB, 23 September 2016 – A meeting of the Working Group on Cross-border Coordination of Frequencies and a meeting on the possibility of shared access was held on 23 and 23 September in Rome under the auspices of the European Commission. The meeting on the cross-border coordination of frequencies included the preparation of a proposal for a RSPG (Radio Spectrum Policy Group) Report on results of cross-border coordination, a presentation of results and plans for use of a regulation and a competition for changing the frequencies in the television band and the beginning of activities on the reallocation of the 700 MHz band in Europe. It also included a presentation of results of a practical test of a new concept of shared access to the spectrum based on the cognitive radio that enables increased efficiency of use of radio frequencies. The report on cross-border coordination of frequencies contained the results of the work and progress achieved in the elimination of frequencies from Italian broadcasters. The noticed drawbacks of the process of elimination of cross-border interferences were also discussed. The Italian side presented a plan for changing the channels on the basis of a regulation and a competition that should result in the elimination of interferences by the end of November 2016.

The working group will actively participate in the reallocation of the 700 Mhz band that will ensure additional frequencies for the development of mobile broadband access. On the basis of the results presented by the working group, the final report on the results of cross-border coordination of frequencies will be adopted at the RSPG meeting in November 2016. The Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network industries will be represented at the meeting by the Assistant Director, Mr. Željko Tabaković and by the Head of the Spectrum Monitoring Department, Mr. Danijel Vidaković.
