HAKOM at a preparatory meeting for the 1st operational-thematic meeting on the topic of the “Rijeka traffic route”

NEWS

The topic of the meeting was the definition and elimination of difficulties on a part of the rail transport market on the Rijeka traffic route.

ZAGREB, 4 July 2016 – At the initiative of the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM) a preparatory meeting for the 1st operational-thematic meeting on the topic of the “Rijeka traffic route” was organized in Rijeka at the premises of the Croatian Chamber of the Economy. In addition to representatives of the organizers, HAKOM and the Croatian Chamber of the Economy, the meeting was attended by representatives of the Rijeka Port Authority, the Port of Rijeka Ltd., the Community for Intermodal Transport and Logistics and of the Jadranska vrata Plc. The topic of the meeting was the definition and elimination of difficulties on a part of the rail transport market on the Rijeka traffic route. The meeting included presentations of conclusions from the fourth round table of stakeholders on the rail services market and of conclusions from the meeting organized by the Croatian Chamber of the Economy in June of 2016 in Zagreb.  The conclusions from both gatherings are for the most part identical and refer to the lack of compliance of working hours of key institutions in the process of organization and realization of transport, including of customs, phytosanitary and veterinary inspection.

HAKOM proposed the coordination of working hours of all stakeholders in the Rijeka traffic route with a view to increasing the competitiveness of that rail traffic route. For that purpose, the participants will submit to HAKOM their reasoned proposals with a view to solving the above-mentioned problem. It was also agreed that the participants in the meeting will submit to HAKOM their reasoned proposals for amendments to the Railway Act.

The participants also indicated other issues encountered in their everyday business operations, including the need for more efficient customs supervision of the EU legislation. It was agreed that shipping operators would also be invited to the 1st operational-thematic meeting as active participants in the organization of railway traffic and representatives of the competent ministries. The above-mentioned thematic meeting will serve as a preparation for the fifth round table to which all participants on the railway traffic market will be invited, as well as representatives of the competent ministries.
