HAKOM at the meeting of the Working Party on Telecommunications and Information Society

ZAGREB, September 15, 2016 – The meeting of the Working Party on Telecommunications and Information Society was held in Brussels.  The working group deals with issues related to information and communication technology and infrastructure, the Internet and the creation of a digital single market in Europe. The main topic of the meeting was the discussion on the Draft Regulation of the European Parliament and the Council related to the Regulation on Roaming in Public Mobile Communications Networks within the Union.
  
A representative of the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM) Mr. Mislav Hebel took part in the meeting of the working group, where the discussion topic was draft Regulation on roaming wholesale prices. The adoption of this Regulation is a necessary condition in order to complete abolition of retail roaming charges which should happen in June 2017. The Regulation shall be adopted by the ordinary legislative procedure and its content must be approved by the EU Council and the European Parliament. During the discussions the representatives of the Member States gave their opinions on the amendments to the Draft Proposal and it will be necessary to reach a compromise between the interests of the Member States having a large influx of foreign users during the tourist season and finally between the Member States whose end- users often travel within the EU.
