Shortly before the state of emergency was declared in Karlovac due to flood, HAKOM received on 12 October a report from the company “Hrvatske vode” about radio interferences. The conducted measuring showed that the interferences originated from several locations in the territory of the Republic of Slovenia. As a result of intense cooperation between two regulators, interferences were eliminated in the shortest time possible.

ZAGREB, 29 October 2015 – The Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM) successfully identified radio interferences originating from the territory of Slovenia and they were eliminated in cooperation with the Slovenian national regulatory authority for electronic communications. On Monday, 12 October 2015, shortly before a state of emergency was declared in Karlovac due to flood, HAKOM received a report of radio interferences from the company “Hrvatske vode”. The following day, HAKOM’s service for RF spectrum control carried out measuring on the location of tower Sljeme where the repeater transmitting information about water levels is located, and found that interferences originated from several locations on the territory of the Republic Slovenia.

A complaint about the above-mentioned interference was sent by HAKOM to the Slovenian national regulatory authority for electronic communications (AKOS) inviting it to eliminate the said interferences in the shortest possible time. As a result of cooperation between experts of two regulatory authorities, a new technical solution was found for the Slovenian user as well who will continue with its transmissions on a bilaterally coordinated frequency at the national level. This example, although unfortunately it took place in difficult and serious circumstances, is an excellent illustration of HAKOM’s responsibility and obligation to protect the radio-frequency spectrum as a national resource.
