HAKOM: For the first time the number of broadband connections in the Republic of Croatia exceeded one million

PRESS RELEASE

According to electronic communications market indicators, the second half of 2016 was marked by an increase in operators’ revenue and in the number of users, which was to be expected because of the start of the tourist season. The number of broadband connections for the first time exceeded one million.

ZAGREB, 2 September 2016 –  In late 2016, the number of broadband connections in the fixed communications network on the Croatian electronic communications market for the first time exceeded one million, with xDSL being the dominant broadband technology. The growth in the number of users of 10 to 30 Mbit/s Internet shows that operators of fixed communications networks continued with their investments into the network, which were also greater than in the first quarter of this year.

In accordance with current trends, and because of the start of the tourist season, the second quarter of 2016 was marked on the electronic communications market by increased use of services in the mobile network. Mobile data services continued to grow and all three mobile communications operators offered voice and data packages. At the end of the second quarter, the penetration of mobile Internet access on smartphones increased by almost 5 percent compared to the same period of last year and reached almost 67 percent. Together with mobile connections, which are used exclusively for Internet access (SIM cards for mobile internet access), mobile broadband penetration amounts to almost 76 percent.

The pay-tv market recorded almost 13 percent growth compared to the same period of 2015 with more than 780,000 users.
