HAKOM at the closing of this Year's BEREC Plenary Meeting
At the meeting held in Malta, the main topics were related to the adoption of important documents such as BEREC and IRG 2020 Annual Work Programme, IRG Management methods in the future period, reports on coordinated data collection by OTT service provider, report on the impact of 5G on regulation as well as the role of regulation on enabling the 5G ecosystems.
ZAGREB, December 6, 2019 - The closing of this year's Plenary Meeting of Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications was held in Malta on December 5-6. The most important topics were related to the reports on IRG's managements methods in the future period, reports on coordinated data collection by OTT service provider, report on the impact of 5G on regulation as well as the role of regulation on enabling the 5G ecosystems.
Every year, at the final Plenary Meeting, BEREC adopts the annual Work Programme for the coming year. Thus, at this meeting the annual BEREC Work Programme for 2020 was adopted. Taking into consideration that the existing BEREC strategy covers the period by the end of 2020, aligned with the annual Work Programme, the draft / new BEREC strategy has been presented and agreed BEREC strategies to be adopted in the second half of next year. In addition, taking into consideration the BEREC Code, the draft BEREC Work Programme for 2021 must be adopted by the end of January 2020, the dynamics and direction of activities until the end of January 2020 was also adopted. Furthermore, the annual work programme of the IRG was adopted (Independent Regulators Group) which completed BEREC's work programme. Likewise, a report was adopted including detailed activities of the IRG in the future period.
Furthermore, taking into consideration an ever increasing importance of OTT providers, and referring the new definition of electronic communications services in accordance with the Code, the report was adopted on harmonized manner of collecting data from OTT providers. The aim of the 5G Technology Impact Report on regulation and the role of regulation in enabling the 5G ecosystem is to assist regulatory authorities to anticipate how the development of 5G technology can have an impact on the regulatory environment.
The purpose of the 5G Technology Impact Report on regulation and the effects of regulation in the usage of 5G ecosystems is aimed to assist regulatory authorities so that the development of 5G technology can affect the regulatory environment.
The special guest who presented FTTH regulation at the Plenary Meeting was Dr Stephen Gale, Chair of the New Zealand Trade Commission
