The Broadband Internet Access Services Responsible for the Growth of Electronic Communications Market

PRESS RELEASE

In the second quarter of 2018, the electronic communications market recorded the total growth in revenue and the number of users. The market growth was generated through the provision of the Internet access services but the revenues from traditional voice telephony services, including text and MMS massages have been in constant decline.

ZAGREB, Sept. 6, 2018 – In the second quarter of 2018, the electronic communications market recorded continued trends from previous years. The telephone service revenues are continually decreasing while revenues generated by the Internet access services keep growing wherein the revenues collected from the Internet access via mobile network increased by 10 percent. Almost 40 percent of the total revenue has been realized from the Internet access services. At the same time, the revenue from the TV broadcasting service increased by almost 4 percent compared to the same period last year.

At the end of June 2018, more than 1.110,000 fixed-line broadband connections were recorded, what is about 3 percent more, compared to June 2017. Furthermore, the number of services provided through fibre optic infrastructure has been recorded although such access to the Internet is used by less than 10 percent of the users. The annual 3-percent growth has been recorded in mobile broadband connections. Mobile network users use a large amount of the Internet traffic and the total turnover of the Internet in mobile communication networks has doubled.

The importance of service packages combining multiple services has been increasing while HAKOM expects the continuation of similar trends in the next period.
