Investment and revenue growth in the electronic communications market
ZAGREB, June 10, 2022 – In the first quarter of 2022, in the electronic communications market, investment in the fixed network continued to grow.
In comparison to the same period of the previous year, total investments increased by 18.5 percent, while investments in VHCN networks (very high capacity networks) increased by 44.5 percent. In the first quarter, the number of high-speed broadband users exceeding 100Mbit/s continued to grow, so that at the end of the period of observation they account for 30.6 percent of the total number of broadband connections, or 82 percent more than a year ago. The migration of users from the copper network to the VHCN network affected the reduction of the number of connections via the copper network, but also the increase of connections via optical technologies by 33 percent. A 0.3 percent growth in Pay-TV connections continues as well. Compared to the first quarter of 2021, when 59% of households accompanying a form of tolling television had a Pay-TV, this number increased to 62.5 and 3.5%, respectively in 2022.
Total annual market revenues increased by 2.1 percent. Revenues from broadband internet access services have increased by 5.5 percent, network and water rental by 2.1 percent, and Pay TV by 3.2 percent, and revenues and the number of users on the
mobile phone market are expected to decrease, as well as revenues from public voice services in the mobile network, which includes both SMS and MMS messages.
