HAKOM and ADVA Optical Networking Together at a Workshop

NEWS

ZAGREB, September 23, 2015. -
Last week, the Croatian regulatory authority for network industries (HAKOM) organized a joint workshop with ADVA Optical Networking to present the latest trends, products and solutions in the implementation of optical network infrastructure. The workshop took place at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the Department of Telecommunications in Zagreb.

ADVA Optical Networking was chosen for this half-day workshop as it is one of the industry-leaders for innovative connectivity solutions. It creates the fastest, highest-capacity and most agile networks available and its technology has been deployed by several hundred service providers and thousands of enterprises around the globe.

During the session, attendees were given the opportunity to acquire an understanding of a wide range of technical solutions for optical data transmission based on WDM technology, utilizing speeds of 10Gbit/s, 40Gbit/s, 100Gbit/s and the newly announced 400Gbit/s. Furthermore, experts gave insights into WDM network architecture, data-flow protection technology and the technical problems and solutions associated with optical data transmission. Businesses everywhere are focusing more and more on data security and ADVA Optical Networking was the first to develop a module that enables data encryption on optical equipment at the physical layer. During the workshop, an encryption module was presented together with relevant business use cases. At the end of the theoretical session, experts informed spectators about specifics of implementation and technical requirements in the Telco, FSI and Enterprise sectors.

During the second part of the workshop, participants had the opportunity for some hands-on experience and testing of the FSP 3000 device deployed in the university’s demo lab. For this purpose, HAKOM, together with ADVA Optical Networking, created a temporary demo lab for further testing and training where students will be able to get actual experience of a device built by one of the leading WDM equipment vendors.

In the future, HAKOM will continue to encourage WDM equipment providers to work closely with the academic community. This will help to develop widespread knowledge and understanding of one of the core technologies that has been categorized as critical to the national infrastructure.
