ZAGREB, 17 March 2016 – A meeting of the Radio Spectrum Committee - RSC, an European Commission working group in charge of spectrum management, took place in Brussels. This working group, inter alia, helps the EC with the drafting of implementing decisions concerning radio spectrum management in the EU Member States. The meeting of the Radio Spectrum Committee was attended by Željko Tabaković, Assistant Director of the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM-a).

The most important topics discussed at the 55th meeting of the RSC include the implementation of EU regulations on radio spectrum management, the application of the licenced shared approach in the 2.3 – 2.4 GHz frequency band, the implementing decision on the harmonized use of 694 - 790 MHz band for mobile communications networks and protection of the GSM-R system. The final version of the decision on technical coordination of the 700 MHz band that will be used broadband access in the EU Member States was adopted at the meeting.

An informal meeting on cross-border coordination and interferences also took place during the above-mentioned meeting. The topics of the meeting included the interferences caused by Italian transmitters to radio and television broadcasters and the implementation of the decision  Decreto-Legge n°145 by local and regional broadcasters. The Italian Ministry of the Economic Development (MISE) published this week a decision on the compensation to local TV stations in the process of voluntary termination of broadcasting over prohibited channels causing interferences in the neighbouring countries, in particular in the regions of Veneto and Friuli - Venezia Giulia. The decision will be followed by implementing decisions for broadcasters. This decision will contribute to a reduction in interferences experienced by Croatian broadcasters in Istria.
