ZAGREB, 1 September 2016 – The Code for Croatia association (“HR Open”) organized the second Open Youth Academy in Pula from 28 August to 3 September with the support of the Information Commissioner. The Academy, which is primarily focused on the use of open data for sustainable local development, is intended for young people aged 15 to 30 years who share a common interest in IT and re-use of public sector information (open data).

The objective of the gathering is to educate young people on transparency and openness through open data and to enable networking and meetings with domestic and foreign experts in the field of open data in order to search for possible solutions and new perspectives for commercial use of public sector data for the benefit of local communities and citizens.

The Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM) participated, as the Academy’s partner, in the “pitching forum” where participants presented their projects and ideas for use of public sector open data, including proposals for the development of applications using public sector open data with a view to dealing with current social challenges and needs. HAKOM’s role in stimulating the development of socially useful applications, as part of its Programme for Internet and Broadband Development in Areas of Special State Concern, Hilly and Mountainous Areas and on the islands, was presented by HAKOM’s experts Velimir Švedek and Nikša Crnčević.
