HAKOM published a list of radio stations and results of EMF measurements

PRESS RELEASE

Two new thematic browsers have been published on HAKOM’s website as part of the interactive GIS portal, “Radio Stations” and “Radio Station Measurements” with a view to achieving accessibility and transparency of information of public interest.

ZAGREB, 8 July 2016 – The Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM) published two new thematic browsers on its interactive GIS portal, “Radio Stations” and “Radio Station Measurements” with a view to achieving accessibility and transparency of gathered information of public interest. Rapid development of networks and mobile communications technologies is accompanied by the development and improvement of network infrastructure view a view to fulfilling the requirements for network capacity and providing more quality services to users, which results, inter alia, in the installation of new base stations. Before putting a new or upgraded radio station into operation, an operator must submit information about that station to HAKOM. On the basis of such information, HAKOM verifies the compliance of the base station with the permissible electromagnetic fields levels laid down in the Ministry of Health’s Ordinance on the protection from electromagnetic fields. While checking each individual base station HAKOM calculates electromagnetic field levels at several points of increased sensitivity near an individual base station and, where necessary, for the purpose of additional control, it conducts measuring on the field.  Stations complying with the radiation levels are issued a certificate of compliance certifying that the installed radio station does not create electromagnetic field levels exceeding the values established in the above-mentioned Ordinance.

The thematic browser “Radio Stations” contains an overview of geographic data on base stations of mobile communications operators and digital terrestrial television radio stations (DVB-T) with basic technical data (data on effective radiation strength, antennae orientation and type of base station installation, that is, the frequency of operation of a DVB-T station).

The thematic browser “Radio Stations Measurements” contains an overview of geographic data on areas where HAKOM carried out the measuring of electromagnetic fields. Measuring reports are available for every measuring point. HAKOM has chosen preschools and elementary schools as measuring points of special interest for measuring campaigns.  The first campaign for measuring electromagnetic fields in selected preschools and elementary schools was carried out in 2010 and results thereof are available in the new thematic browser. Considering the above-mentioned development of technologies and services and the accompanying building of network infrastructure, HAKOM decided in 2016 to renew the campaign in 120 preschools and elementary schools. Measuring is in progress and the results will be published upon completion of the campaign.
