New version of the "Privacy Calculator" available on HAKOM's website

Zagreb, 9 November 2016 The new version of the "Privacy Calculator" application is available at the website of the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM). This application was created in cooperation with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER) of the University of Zagreb within the framework of the project "Looking into the Future 2020".
 
The "Privacy Calculator" is an application showing real scams occurring in everyday life. The main purpose of this application is to inform and educate end users of electronic communications, in particular users of the Internet access service, about the potential dangers of providing personal information online. The “Privacy Calculator” operates on the basis of the following principle: when a user selects one of the parameters required by an Internet service and clicks Estimate, the Calculator estimates the risk level of using that service and illustrates it by means of the Calculator heat scale. Depending on the risk level, the scale changes colour from green to red and the resulting value is associated with a scam scenario from real life, which is illustrated in the form of a comic strip. The last picture of each comic contains an advice for the user on how to act and protect himself/herself in the described situation. In addition to the above-mentioned advice, contact information is also provided for users who need additional information.
 
The new version of the "Calculator" has been upgraded with 14 scam scenarios and it additionally offers to users an overview of all scam scenarios within the framework of the "Scams Catalogue" "The Scams Catalogue" contains a total of 35 scam scenarios classified into 9 categories. This makes it more user friendly since users no longer need to enter different combinations of parameters into the calculator to be able to see new comics or scam scenarios.
