As part of the 66th International ELMAR Symposium, a special session was held on the topic "5G in Broadcasting"
ZAGREB, 17 September 2024 - The 66th International ELMAR Symposium 2024 was officially opened in Zadar with welcoming speeches from Prof. Dr. Mislav Grgić, General Chair, Assoc. Prof. Mario Muštra, Chair of the Organising Committee, Ante Milas, member of the HAKOM Council, and Krešo Antonović, Director of Directorate for Civil Aviation, Electronic Communications and Postal Services at the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure. For more than half a century, this symposium has addressed key scientific and professional topics in the fields of electronics, wireless communications, image and video processing, automation, robotics, transport systems, radar and navigation systems, and space technologies.
The Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM) and the company Odašiljači i veze d.o.o. organised a special session titled "5G in Broadcasting" on Monday, as part of the ELMAR symposium. Several engaging presentations showcased the current development and application of this technology, its potential, and the regulatory and technical challenges facing stakeholders and potential users in electronic communications, audio-visual services, industry, and academia. Ana Katalinić Mucalo, Deputy Executive Director at HAKOM, welcomed the session’s participants, while Tigran Vržina, Chief Technical Adviser at OIV, expertly guided attendees through the insightful presentations and discussions.
Following the presentations “5G Broadcast for Public Service Media” by Dr. Roland Beutler from Südwestrundfunk (SWR), “5G Broadcast - Current Developments and Achievements” by Markus Mangia and Michael Weber from ORS, “Maximising the Potential of Sub-700 MHz Spectrum in Slovenia until WRC-31” by M.Sc.EE Janja Varšek from AKOS, “Broadcasting using 5G and Network Slicing” by Hrvoje Hadžić from Ericsson Nikola Tesla, and “5G Potential in Broadcasting in Croatia from the Perspective of the Regulator and Network Operator” by Danijel Vidaković from HAKOM and Jasminka Cigrovski from OIV, participants had the opportunity to witness a live demonstration of 5G broadcasting and gain deeper insight into the pilot project being conducted by OIV in Croatia.
