Croatia's First Satellite in Space

HAKOM experts monitored the satellite launch and will continue to support similar projects in the future.

ZAGREB, 24 December 2024 - Croatia's first nanosatellite, CroCube, was successfully launched last weekend from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in the United States as part of SpaceX's Bandwagon-2 mission. The satellite has already established its first communication with Earth. CroCube is now in its orbit at an altitude of 510 km, where it will remain operational for two years.

Daniela Jović, the mission leader, confirmed that CroCube is in excellent condition with its data  being monitored via the global SATNOGS network. The public can track its progress through a free mobile app or via the SATNOGS network online. The satellite's current position is available through a provided link.

To summarise, CroCube, measuring 10 x 10 x 10 cm and weighing 1.1 kg, will capture images of Earth and conduct scientific measurements, including testing Croatia's Astrotron 1000 module for monitoring the degradation of microelectronics. This historic project is the result of three years of volunteer work in Croatia, carried out in collaboration with the companies Spacemanic and EVO. The initiative has opened new opportunities for Croatian companies to participate in the global space industry.

The launch of Croatia’s first satellite was closely followed by the experts from HAKOM (the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries). On this occasion, received a commemorative plaque in recognition of its contribution. The management of satellite orbits and communication frequencies falls under the jurisdiction of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). HAKOM is responsible for coordinating and internationally standardising the communication and orbital characteristics of Croatian satellite networks through the ITU.

In this regard, HAKOM played a key role in supporting the CroCube project and has committed to fully back similar projects in the future, which are expected to emerge very soon.
