Growing revenues and investments in the electronic communications market
Zagreb, 16 March 2023 — In the electronic communications market, the trend of increased investment in fixed and mobile communications networks continued in 2022. Compared to the same period of the previous year, investments in very high capacity networks (VHCN) increased by 6 % and the trend towards base station investments (BTS) in mobile communications networks continued.
Total revenues in the electronic communications market amounted to 1.6 billion euros (HRK 12 billion), an increase of 3.6 percent. Revenues from broadband internet access services grew by 9 percent, from network and wiring rents by 5 percent, and from pay-TV by 4 percent, while at the same time, revenues in the fixed telephone market fell by more than nine percent.
In the fourth quarter of 2022, users’ migration to fibre technology continued, affecting the growth of such connections by 27.5 percent in a year. Over the same period, total data traffic over fixed and mobile networks grew by 15.7 % on average. The share of users of broadband connections with speeds above 100Mbit/also increased to 35.7 percent.
In the last quarter of 2022, foreign citizens spent over 95 million roaming minutes talking, up 8.9 percent from the same period in 2021. The number of SMS and MMS messages sent is significantly lower than last year (down 21.6 % and 27.7 % respectively).
In the last quarter, 62.3 % of households used some form of pay-TV and continued the trend of rising revenues from this service. Compared to the previous year, total revenues from television services increased by 4.3 percent. Of pay-TV services, it is still the most common television on Internet Protocol (IPTV) with more than 52 percent of connections.
In the fixed network telephone services market, the trend of a decrease in the number of users, total revenues and outbound traffic continued. Compared to the same period of the previous year, the number of users decreased by 1.8 percent, the total outbound traffic of the operator was 22.5 percent lower and total revenue by 9.4 percent.
