HAKOM Publishes Key Market Indicators for Q3 2024
ZAGREB, 17 December 2024 - The Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM) has released the latest market indicators for the electronic communications sector for the third quarter of 2024.
Significant Growth in Investment and Network Modernisation
In the first nine months of 2024, €73 million was invested in Very High Capacity Networks (VHCNs), representing a nearly 27% increase compared to the same period last year. This ongoing investment has facilitated an increase in the number of VHCN connections to 490,750, now accounting for 43% of all 1,140,391 fixed broadband internet connections in Croatia. By the end of Q3, 45% of all connections, regardless of technology, supported speeds exceeding 100 Mbit/s.
Revenue Growth
Total market revenues for the first three quarters of 2024 reached €1.36 billion, marking a 7.8% increase compared to the same period in 2023. Revenues from mobile network services rose by 7.73% to €900 million, while revenues from fixed networks increased by 7.87% to €464 million.
Migration of Users to Fibre-Optic Technologies
The number of connections using fibre-optic technologies grew by 83,897 in Q3 compared to the same period last year, while connections relying on copper infrastructure decreased by 52,840. The total number of fibre-optic connections has now reached 323,860.
Expansion of OTT Services and TV
Revenues from proprietary OTT services saw a significant increase of 171% in Q3 compared to the previous year, with the number of service connections rising by 116% to a total of 110,055. The structure of Pay TV connections remained stable, with IPTV technology maintaining its lead at 51.2%. Other technologies included cable TV with 14%, satellite TV with 13%, terrestrial Pay TV with 10%, and proprietary OTT services accounting for nearly 12%. The total number of Pay TV connections across all technologies reached 926,288.
International Roaming
The volume of calls made by foreign users on national networks grew by 5.7% compared to the same period last year, underscoring a steady recovery in international mobility among users.
