In the fourth quarter, more passengers and less goods were transported by rail
In the railway market in the Republic of Croatia in the fourth quarter of 2022, freight rail transport carried 7.5 percent less goods with 0.3 percent less realised tonne-kilometres compared to the same period of the previous year. HŽ Cargo d.o.o. transported 11.7 percent less goods and achieved 2.4 percent less tonne-kilometres, while new freight railway companies transported 4.4 percent less goods and generated 2.3 percent more tonne-kilometres. At the end of the fourth quarter, new undertakings accounted for 59.6 % of the total goods transported and 46.3 % of the tonne-kilometres generated. Out of a total of 17 freight railway undertakings, 11 were commercially active while six new rail freight operators did not transport goods in the fourth quarter of 2022. Regardless of the reduced transport of goods, freight revenues from freight companies grew by 16.4 percent in a year.
