Osijek, the Croatian 5G City

The Government of the Republic of Croatia has reached a conclusion on Osijek as a 5G City where the commercial work on 5G technology will begin by the end of the year
.
 
Zagreb, January 24, 2020 - The Government of the Republic of Croatia has reached a conclusion on Osijek as the Croatian 5G City and Slavonia will be the first Croatian region to operate 5G networks commercially. Commercial work on 5G technology in Osijek is expected by the end of this year.
 
However, within the scope of the Digital Single Market Strategy for Europe, according to the 5G EU Action Plan, many measures are provided for the implementation of 5G technology in the Member States. In accordance with the plan, at least one city in a Member State as a suitable candidate for the deployment of commercial 5G technology and the  implementation of  5G networks and services in that city by the end of this year.
 
The expert group of the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, as well as HAKOM and all three mobile operators completed the analysis of the candidates (Osijek, Rijeka, Karlovac and Bjelovar) for the 5G city last year, and Osijek proved to be the most suitable.
 
By the end of 2020, the implementation of commercial 5G services will require the prior allocation of new radio frequency spectrum to the operators, which is expected in the second half of this year.
