Panel discussion on “10 years from the liberalised railway transport market in Croatia”

The previous decade brought about the opening of the market, and 18 operators have been registered in the rail freight market so far.

Zagreb, 18 April 2023 — Following the invitation of the organizer Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM), the Croatian Railway Safety Agency (CRSA) and, Air, Maritime and Railway Traffic Accidents Investigation Agency a panel discussion was held on “10 years from the liberalised rail transport market in Croatia”. The fundamental goals of EU transport policy, which were discussed during this panel discussion, are followed by Croatia as a full member, through the promotion of competitive market relations, with the aim of contributing to the development of a single European market for rail services. The liberalisation of the market in the Republic of Croatia was followed by a new period in the railway sector, the opening of the market and the abandonment of the monopoly market model. In 2013, new freight railway undertakings were registered for the first time in the Republic of Croatia, and altogether 18 freight undertakings have been registered so far.

In large numbers, the event was followed by the stakeholders of the rail services market, and the panel discussion was attended by the representatives of freight undertakings HŽ Cargo and Rail Cargo Carrier-Croatia, HŽ Infrastructure, container terminal Jadranska Vrata and the representatives of panel organisers. The participants were welcomed by Tonko Obuljen, Chairman of the Council at HAKOM Želimir Delač, director at ASŽ, Alana Vukić, director at AIN and Alen Gospočić, State Secretary at the Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, who spoke about planned state investments in railway infrastructure.
