Public Discussion on 5G Spectrum

NEWS

A public discussion on the future allocation of 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 3.6 GHz and 26 GHz frequency bands has been published.

Zagreb, 25 June 2020 – HAKOM launched a public discussion on the future allocation of 700 MHz/800 MHz/900 MHZ/3.6 GHz/26 GHz frequency bands to inform participants on the market and the public of its intention to allocate spectrum to 5 G-generation mobile communications networks (5G) and to examine the market situation in terms of its readiness to award frequency bands under a single public auction procedure.

The allocation of radio spectrum intended for 5G networks, 700 MHz, 3.6 GHz and 26 GHz was planned at the end of 2020. Due to Covid-19 epidemic and the impact of the measures adopted to fight  the epidemic on social and economic activities, the transition to the DVB-T2/HEVC, planned for the first half of the year, has been postponed for the second half of 2020, postponing the release of the 700 MHz band for broadband wireless access. Taking all this into account, HAKOM decided to move the deadline for the allocation of radio spectrum by 5G through a public auction for the first half of 2021, thus opening the space for the radio spectrum for the future application of 5G to be allocated in a more comprehensive manner, as the spectrum already used for mobile communications networks was re-planned in 2022. In order to enable the provision of broadband wireless access services as high as possible in the long term, either through 4G or 5G technology, HAKOM is considering the possibility of allocating 700 MHZ/3.6 GHz/26 GHz and 800 MHz/900 MHz frequency bands under a single public auction procedure (in October 2019 a public discussion was held on future allocation of 700 MHz, 1500 MHz, 3.6 GHz and 26 GHz frequency bands).
