The 4th Call for Proposals under CEF Digital Launched

The European Commission has launched the fourth call for proposals under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF Digital). The aim of the call, open until 13 February 2025, is to co-finance key projects to accelerate the digital transformation of Europe.

ZAGREB, 22 October 2024 - The European Commission (EC) launched the fourth call for proposals under the CEF digital. Alongside the announcement of the fourth call, the results of the third call were also published, through which 53 new projects would be co-financed.

Through the 4th call for proposals under the digital section of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF Digital), the EC plans to co-finance projects that will further contribute to the digital transformation of Europe. The areas covered by the call include European quantum communication infrastructure (EuroQCI initiative), core connectivity for global digital gateways (Backbone connectivity for Digital Global Gateways), and (5G large-scale pilots), which include 5G smart communities and 5G coverage along major transport routes. The total fund for financing works and studies related to global digital gateways amounts to €128 million, while only works will be financed for EuroQCI and 5G pilot projects. An amount of €52.5 million has been allocated for each of the 5G components, and €90 million for EuroQCI.

Referring to the results of the 3rd CEF Digital call, the European Commission selected 53 projects in the third round, focusing on the establishment of secure, reliable, and sustainable 5G networks along transport routes, as well as the development of 5G networks and applications for smart communities and digital core infrastructure. These projects involve 215 partners from 28 member states, with a total projected funding amount of €241 million. Further details on the results of the 3rd call are available at the provided link.

This fourth call represents a significant step towards advancing the digital transformation of Europe, while the outcomes of the third call demonstrate notable progress in the implementation of 5G networks and smart communities across the EU.
