The 6th Croatian Forum on Internet Governance
Zagreb, 18 May 2023 Within the scope of the 46th International ICT Conference MIPRO 2023, traditionally held in Opatija, the 6th Croatian Internet Governance Forum (Croatian IGF) will take place on Thursday, May 25th. This year’s 6th edition of CRO-IGF will have two central topics. The first is the entry into force of the Digital Services Act, and the second is the Global Digital Compact (GDC) to be agreed upon at the Summit of the Future in September 2024.
The Internet Governance Forum is a global initiative under the auspices of the UN to bring together all interested stakeholders to discuss issues relevant to Internet governance. The initiative was created in 2006 at the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) in Tunisia, with the decision of the UN Secretary-General as an open platform for discussions on Internet governance. The immediate motivation for this decision was the need to involve the wider social community in the discussions on Internet governance and regulation, as it was recognized that topics related to Internet governance were broader than topics of IP address space, internet protocols, and domains. There was also a need to involve other stakeholders such as representatives of civil society, academia, industry and the private sector in discussions in addition to country representatives. The Croatian National IGF was established in 2015.
