The regional forum for Europe, titled "Accessible Europe: ICT 4 ALL," was held

The topics included website accessibility, universal design, artificial intelligence (AI), and the Metaverse.

ZAGREB, January 8, 2024 - The regional forum for Europe, "Accessible Europe: ICT 4 ALL," was held in Madrid, organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the European Commission (EC), with the support of the Government of Spain, as part of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The forum was organized based on the International Telecommunication Union's (ITU) Regional Initiative for Europe, "EUR 3: Digital Inclusion and Skills Development," and its goals, which were defined and adopted by member states during the World Telecommunication Development Conference 2022, along with Resolution WTDC 58 (Rev. Kigali, 2022), "Accessibility of Telecommunication/Information and Communication Technologies for Persons with Disabilities and Persons with Special Needs." The topics included website accessibility, universal design, artificial intelligence (AI), and the Metaverse.

Accessible Europe 2023 is an inclusive platform with a diverse range of participants, including policymakers, representatives from the academic community, members of civil society, operators, and the general public. The aim is to engage in significant discussions about digital inclusion and accessibility. On the first day of the forum, Tanja Zaninović from HAKOM participated in a panel discussion on "Navigating the European Regulatory Landscape for Accessibility: Priorities, Good Practices, and Challenges." HAKOM contributed to the forum by providing a detailed description of activities carried out since 2016 in the field of protecting persons with disabilities. Additionally, HAKOM received an invitation to join working groups covering areas of accessibility, AI, and the Metaverse (in terms of their benefits for persons with disabilities). The exchange of ideas and positive practices at the forum will undoubtedly contribute to the further steps towards an inclusive digital future for all, in accordance with global commitments and regional priorities.
