HAKOM: Construction of the Split branch office and the control and measuring centre has started

PRESS RELEASE

HAKOM’s branch office in Split is being built on the location of Vrh Visoka in the city neighbourhood Visoka in Split. The construction should be completed in May 2006. This location is the highest elevation in the city of Split and, as such, it is very suitable for the development of HAKOM’s new control and measuring centre.

ZAGREB, 16 September 2015 – The beginning of construction of a new HAKOM’s branch office in Split and the control and measuring centre was marked in the presence of representatives of the City of Split and the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM). After two and a half decades of operation in rented premises in Kopilica and unsuccessful search for adequate locations during which these premises have proven to be inadequate because of spatial restrictions which made it difficult for HAKOM’s experts to monitor the RF spectrum in some parts of Dalmatia, HAKOM selected the contractor for the construction of the new building after having obtained all the necessary licences and after having successfully completed a public tender procedure.

HAKOM’s branch office in Split is being constructed at the location on Vrh Visoka in the neighbourhood Visoka in Split and the works are planned to be completed in May 2016. This location is the highest elevation in the city of Split and, as such, very suitable for the construction of HAKOM’s new control and measuring centre. This facility is part of a key national infrastructure and it is of significant importance for the national security system of the Republic of Croatia since HAKOM’s competences include, among other things, the management of the RF spectrum, measuring and testing, and establishing the cause of interferences in the RF spectrum as well as technical checks, calculations and measuring values of electromagnetic fields by using the most advanced technical and measuring equipment.

In order to be able to execute its authority prescribed by the law, HAKOM has established a system of control and measuring centres and control and measuring stations with the necessary measuring, computer and communications equipment, software, and measuring and other vehicles. From Split, as one of its key control and measuring centres, it supervises the RF spectrum in the entire Dalmatia. The control and measuring system, which will be installed as part of the branch office, consists exclusively of passive equipment, that is, of receiving antennae and devices, and, as such, is not a source of electromagnetic radiation. Moreover, due to the sensitivity of the measuring equipment, no sources of electromagnetic radiation are allowed in the vicinity of the control and measuring centre, such as operator’s base stations and similar transmitting antennae.
