Number of Parcels in the Postal Services Market Reaches Record High

The growth of postal services is driven by online shopping - 10.9 million parcels were delivered in Croatia in the second quarter of 2024.

ZAGREB, 10 September 2024 - Croatia’s postal services market has reached a new milestone, with a record number of parcels delivered in the second quarter of 2024. This remarkable increase is driven by the rise in online shopping and a growing demand for efficient and reliable delivery services. A total of 10.9 million parcels were delivered during this period, marking a 21.8% increase compared to the same period last year, and a 6.5% growth compared to the first quarter of 2024. Parcel services now account for 16.8% of the total postal market, which is a 3% rise from the same period last year. Meanwhile, the number of letter items has decreased by 3.5%, while the overall number of postal services has remained around 65 million for several consecutive quarters.

International postal services currently account for 8.3% of the total market, reflecting a 16.7% increase compared to the same period last year. This trend highlights the strengthening of cross-border business activities and the growing importance of international delivery channels.

Total revenue from postal services reached 93.7 million euros, representing an increase of 25.6 percent compared to the same period last year and eight percent compared to the previous quarter. The higher revenue was primarily driven by the growth of value-added services (express deliveries), which saw a 21.8 percent increase compared to the second quarter of 2023, while higher service prices also contributed to the growth to a lesser extent.

The number of postal service providers remains stable, with 23 registered providers on the postal services market. The largest provider is HP-Hrvatska pošta d.d., holding a 59.1% share of the market based on revenue and an 84.3% share based on the number of services provided.
