Preparations for Local Elections: HAKOM Gathers Key Stakeholders to Protect Information Integrity

Zagreb, April 10, 2025 - In its role as the Coordinator for Digital Services, and in cooperation with the State Electoral Commission (DIP), the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM) held a roundtable on April 9, 2025, focused on reducing the risk of disinformation in the context of the upcoming local elections, scheduled for May 18, 2025.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the major internet platforms (Google, Meta, TikTok, X), the European Commission, the State Electoral Commission, and representatives of civil society organizations (Gong, Faktograf, ADMO).

The aim of the discussion was to identify potential risks of information manipulation and disinformation that could affect the democratic process, and to confirm and further strengthen existing communication protocols and rapid response mechanisms.

Participants confirmed the continuation of cooperation through direct communication channels in cases of suspected coordinated disinformation campaigns or other forms of digital manipulation. The cooperation will follow a model that was previously applied during the last presidential elections.
