Croatian Scientists on 5G

HAKOM asked established Croatian scientists, dealing with fields related to the technology and the impact of electromagnetic fields on health, questions that are often posed to the public.

Their answers can be found below.

Prof. PhD Davor Bonefačić, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, Zagreb

Prof. PhD Davor Bonefačić is a full professor at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER).
He is engaged in scientific research in the field of integrated antenna, small and textile antenna and radiocommunications on the human body. He participated in six European and eight national scientific research projects, as a researcher and leader. He published more than 100 scientific papers, participated in the organization of dozens of international scientific symposiums and redacted different proceedings. His professional activity includes the assessment and measurement of human exposure to high frequency electromagnetic fields, electromagnetic compatibility, and the assessment and suppression of electromagnetic interference in radio frequency systems. He has made dozens of professional studies and elaborates in these fields. He is a full member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts and a secretary of the Department of Communication systems of the Academy and a member of the international association IEEE and several domestic professional societies. He received the Rikard Podhorsky Annual Award from the Croatian Academy of Engineering for his scientific contribution in the development of small active integrated antennas and determination of human exposure to electromagnetic fields

PhD Mirta Milić, Institute for Medical Research and Occupational Health Zagreb

PhD Mirta Milić is a senior scientific associate at the Institute for Medical Research and Occupational Health Zagreb, a member of the Croatian and European Society of Toxicology, Croatian Radiation Protection Association and a guest lecturer at the college course Radiobiology of the department of Biology of the Faculty of Natural Science and Mathematics of the University of Zagreb. Within the scope of scientific, expert and teaching activities, she studies the impact (mostly genotoxicity and mutagenicity) of various physical, chemical and biological agents and mechanisms of influence on health and genomic stability (DNA damage and DNA damage repair) of living organisms, including the impact of exposure to high and low radiation doses. She has participated in several domestic and international projects, in the organization and management of international meetings. She is a member of the editorial board in several international journals and the author of a number of publications.

Prof. PhD Dragan Poljak, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, Split

Prof. PhD Dragan Poljak is a full professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture at the University of Split. Within the scope of scientific and professional activities, he studies the problems of electromagnetic compatibility, plasma physics and electromagnetic and thermal dosimetry. He has participated in several domestic and international projects, organized a large number of international conferences. He is a member of the editorial board in several international journals and the author of a number of publications. He received several international and domestic awards and the State Award for Science for his scientific work and research and in July 2019 he was awarded an international award for exceptional scientific achievement in New Orleans.

Prof. PhD Gordan Šišul Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing at the University of Zagreb
